At Hinterland Physiotherapy we also have Shockwave treatment. Also known as Extracorporeal ShockWave Therapy Unit. The types of conditions which benefit well from treatment with our shockwave unit are below:
• Shoulder tendonitis / calcification
• Plantar fasciitis / foot pain
• Tennis elbow / Golfers Elbow
• Achilles tendonitis
• Heel spurs
• Hip Bursitis
• Trigger Points, and much more.
This type of treatment has had fantastic results. Current research has shown a success rate of between 75% to 91%, depending on the injury type. The machine can be used for people suffering acute or chronic pain.
Shockwave Therapy is new technology which uses shock waves to treat conditions mentioned above. A shock wave is an intense short energy wave, which travels faster than the speed of sound. We have also had great success by using the shockwave unit on stubborn injuries that have not responded to other types of treatments.
How does it work?
The machine works by creating microtrauma to the affected area, which thus stimulates blood flow and thereby promoting tissue healing. In chronic pain, the shock waves create a new inflammatory process, which then ‘kick starts’ the brain to react by sending the necessary nutrients to promote healing.
Research has proven it provides great results. Shockwave therapy is new to our Hinterland Physiotherapy clinic but we have been using it for 18 months in our other clinics in Queensland with fantastic results. Some patients find after just four sessions a huge decrease in their symptoms.
